Bruce Walker
2012 Chairman

Bruce Walker has just been elected HBI's Chairman of the Board for 2012.  He is a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker 1st Minot Realty in Minot, North Dakota. A former NAHB national vice president, he began serving on the Board of Trustees in 2004.   


Janet Bray

Janet Bray is the Executive Director for the Association for Career and Technical Education.  Janet joined HBI's Board in 2010.


Margaret Doughty

Margaret Doughty is founder of Literacy Powerline, an international literacy expert committed to supporting local governments, foundations, businesses and community organizations in their efforts to create effective systems for lifelong learning. Literacy Powerline links stakeholders, neighborhoods and services together to increase literacy levels through coordinated, high-accountability service provision. Margaret was appointed in May, 2011 for a three year term.


Gerald M. Howard

Jerry Howard is NAHB's Chief Executive Officer who has more than 25 years of lobbying and association experience in Washington, D.C. Previously, he was the Senior Staff Vice President of NAHB's Government Affairs Division.


Rick Judson

Rick Judson is president and owner of Evergreen Development Group in Charlotte, North Carolina with over 35 years of experience in the building industry.  Judson is NAHB’s 2011 Chairman-Elect of the Board and is a successful builder and developer with several decades of experience in land development and construction of single-family, multi-family and commercial projects.


Rod Love

Rod Love wa elected to the HBI Board of Trustees in May of 2011.  He is President and CEO of Community Synergy Group which focuses its expertise in legislative policy development, trend analyses, appropriations development and cost value benefit as well as legislative strategic development.  His previous expertise with the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice is an asset to HBI’s programs that target low income and adjudicated youth, and adult ex-offenders.


Earl McLeod

Earl E. McLeod, Jr. has served as the Executive Director for the HBA of Greater Columbia since 1983.  In 2001, Earl was inducted into the South Carolina Housing Hall of Fame.  He previously served as the 2008 President of the Executive Officers Council of NAHB, Vice Chairman of the Lexington County Planning Commission, Member of the Affordable Housing Task Force for the city of Columbia, SC, a member of the Business Advisory Council for Project HOPE, and the Columbia Community Advisory Board for Home Works.  Earl joined the HBI Board of Trustees in 2010.

 
Peter Merrill

Peter G. Merrill is President & CEO of Construction Dispute Resolution Services, LLC (CDRS) of Santa Fe, NM.  He was appointed to the HBI Board in February, 2012 by Vice Chairman & Secretary Tom Woods.  Peter has a distinguished record of service to NAHB that includes membership on the 2012 Executive Board, Green Building, Building Codes, Energy, Building Standards and many subcommittees.  Peter is also past president of both the Santa Fe Area HBA and the New Mexico HBA.    


Jud Motsenbocker

Jud is a remodelor and builder, and has spent more than 40 years in the industry. An active member at the local, state and national levels of the NAHB Federation, his service on the board of HBI is only one of his many contributions including serving as president of the Indiana Home Builders Association. His awards and commendations are many, including NAHB’s Remodelor of the Year in 1986. A firm believer in industry education, Motsenbocker taught the building trades at the high school level, earning him a special Citation Award from the Indiana Vocational Association for helping to revitalize the program. He continues to share his knowledge of the industry as a seminar and course instructor for NAHB’s Certified Graduate Remodelor and Certified Graduate Builder designations as well as HBI's Residential Construction Superintendent series.  Jud served as HBI Chairman of the Board in 2002.

 
Randy Noel

Mr. Noel is President of Reve Inc. which builds custom homes. He is a former president of the HBA of Greater New Orleans and the state of Louisiana. In 2008 he was inducted into the Louisiana Builders Hall of Fame. He is currently serving on the LHBA Self insurance Workers Compensation Board of Trustees and the LHBA General Liability Indemnity Trust Board. He is a Life Member of  the National Association of Home Builders'  Board of Directors.  Mr. Noel has previously served as chairman of the Louisiana State Uniform Construction Council.   He was the second Member of the Institute of Residential Marketing in the state of Louisiana. He has spoken at numerous functions on building codes, marketing, and insurance. Mr. Noel joined the HBI Board of Trustees originally in 2009 and was recently re-appointed by NAHB Chairman-Elect, Rick Judson.


William Paul

Bill Paul is the president of Phoenix Construction and Development Company in New Port Richey, Florida. A past president of the Tampa Bay Builders Association, this is his ninth year on the HBI Board of Trustees.


Don Pratt
Immediate Past Chairman

Don Pratt has spent more than 30 years in the residential construction industry as an active homebuilder, construction consultant, arbitrator and educator.  An avid supporter of industry education, he holds the CGB, CGR, CGP and CAPS designations, instructs NAHB University of Housing courses, and teaches Pre-Licensure Education in Michigan. Previously, he served as Chairman of the Board of the NAHB Research Center.  Pratt is also a registered code official, member of the International Code Council Foundation and has served three Michigan governors as Chairman of Michigan’s Construction Code Commission. 


David Pressly
2012 Vice Chairman

David Pressly is president of Pressly Development Company, Inc. of Statesville, North Carolina.  He was President of NAHB in 2006 and joined HBI's Board of Trustees in 2009.  Mr. Pressly is a home builder with more than 25 years of experience and constructs single-family homes and apartments and light commercial projects in the Statesville area.


Ashley Richards

Ashley Richards is president and owner of Richards & Company, a custom homebuilding and remodeling company.  He is also an architect and designs active and passive solar homes and additions.  Richards & Company is an Energy Star Builder.  Ashley joined the HBI Board of Trustees in 2009.


Patsy R. Smith

Patsy Smith was the 2005 chairman of the HBI Board of Trustees. She is president of Herman Smith & Company, a business established by her late husband, a former NAHB president, prominent land developer and philanthropist. She has served on the Board since 1995 and established the Patsy and Herman Smith Fund for Excellence in the Trades in 2005 to assist HBI programs and its students connect with the industry.


Frank Wiesner
2012 Audit Committee Chairman

Frank Wiesner has been a member of NAHB since 1997.  He is a member of both the HBA of Raleight-Wake and the HBA of Durham, Orange & Chatham counties since 1997.  He has served NAHB on various committees and has earned his MIRM and CMP designation through the National Sales & Marketing Council.        


Chris Zirkle

Dr. Chris Zirkle is an associate professor in the Department of Workforce Development & Education at The Ohio State University.  He joined the HBI Board of Trustees in 2010.

HBI seeks experienced workers from the home building industry to volunteer as mentors for youth in 28 cities in 11 southern states. HBI’s C-CORE program matches teens ages 16-18 with adult mentors from any facet of the home building industry who encourage them to consider careers in home building and coach them toward success.  » READ MORE
