The Home Building Industry
Home Builders Institute (HBI) is the workforce development arm of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), a federation of more than 800 state and local home builder’s associations representing more than 160,000 members from the home building industry. As an affiliate of NAHB, HBI partners with the home building industry to prepare workers for careers in the residential construction industry.
About one third of NAHB’s members are builders and/or remodelers. NAHB’s builder members construct about 80 percent of the homes built in the United States each year.
The remaining NAHB members are associates working in fields within the housing industry such as mortgage finance and building projects and services.
HBI exhibits at and administers the NAHB Student Chapters Residential Construction Management Competition at the International Builders Show (IBS), NAHB’s annual convention and exhibition and the largest show of its kind for the home building industry.
HBI’s sister organizations under the NAHB umbrella are the National Housing Endowment (NHE) and the NAHB Research Center.
NHE improves the future of the building industry by creating educational opportunities for students. The Endowment graciously supports HBI and its students through numerous grant opportunities including its H.E.L.P. initiative and through travel scholarships to the IBS.
The NAHB Research Center develops, tests and evaluates new materials, methods, standards and equipment to improve the technology and affordability of America’s housing.
