Residential Construction Superintendent Designation

The Home Builders Institutes’ Residential Construction Superintendent (RCS) Designation coursework enhances the knowledge and skills of home building or remodeling site field professionals.

Industry subject matter experts designed the courses offered through the RCS Designation, which includes the original RCS Designation, Advanced RCS Designation and RCS specialty concentrations in log and timber home building and concrete technologies.

Students who successfully complete the eight RCS Designation courses will have the foundational knowledge of a job-ready superintendent, from project management to working with trade contractors to planning and scheduling to customer relations.

Students who have earned the original RCS designation can expand their knowledge with the Advanced RCS Designation, which prepares them for residential construction supervisory roles. Advanced RCS Designation courses cover three areas of study: Professional Growth, Building Leaders and Technical Proficiency. A test-out option for the Advanced RCS designation is available.

HBI also offers RCS specialty designations in concrete home building and log and timber frame construction to experienced home builders and superintendents. HBI partnered with NAHB’s Concrete Home Building Coalition (CHBC) on concrete home building courses that provide students with the knowledge they need to successfully manage residential construction sites that use concrete materials.

Subject matter experts from NAHB’s Log Homes Council developed the Log and Timber Frame Home Construction Overview to familiarize students with the intricacies of log home construction. Because the craft of constructing a log home is different than traditional construction, construction professionals can benefit greatly from an indepth look at building log homes through this one four-hour course.

Since students have different learning styles and varying schedules, HBI offers RCS designation courses in both online, through a partnership with Viridis Learning, and in a classroom setting with an HBI-approved instructor through local home builders associations nationwide. Online courses are available in both English and Spanish.

For more information about registering for or teaching any of the RCS Designation courses, please contact Laura Bray at 800-795-7955, x8902.
