Home Builders Institute created Sed de Saber™-Construction Edition to help builders address the language barrier and improve safety, quality and communication on the job site. The fully-interactive, learn-at-your-own-pace format gives workers the opportunity to learn general and residential construction-specific English in about 16 weeks. By empowering Hispanic workers to learn English, builders can cultivate a skilled, loyal workforce. Sed de Saber™ first appeared in the hospitality industry in 2005 and has impacted over 26,000 workers. Successes from the hospitality industry show that Sed de Saber™ helped serve as a recruiting tool, promoted loyalty, encouraged career advancement and boosted productivity. Sed de Saber (“Thirst for Knowledge”) — Construction Edition is being developed in partnership with Retention Education, Inc., as an English as a Second Language (ESL) learning tool for the residential construction industry. It includes seven self-paced, interactive books that use Leap Frog Enterprise, Inc.™ technology to teach workers 500 vocabulary words and more than 340 phrases commonly used in home building.
“With an estimated 2.4 million Hispanic workers fueling the nation’s home building industry, the Construction Edition of Sed de Saber represents an enormous opportunity for home builders to recruit and retain skilled workers, fortify business relationships, increase efficiency and employee loyalty and promote job site safety,” said Michael Sivage, a builder/developer from Albuquerque, N.M. and previous HBI chairman. ~ |
